Remember "Snow means Slow"
Once again, we are facing our winter season for 2018-2019 and Council is reminding motorists of the dangers of winter driving and of the need to adjust our driving habits to fit the conditions.
All residents are reminded that it is illegal to leave an unattended vehicle on the roadways between the hours of 12 midnight and 8:00 AM from December 1st to March 31st. Such action impedes our snow clearing efforts and is dangerous to the traveling public.
Council will not be held liable for damages to any vehicles left unattended on any of the Town's municipal roads. Operators will be asked to write down license plate numbers and if the problem continues, we will inform the RCMP. Furthermore, it is illegal for anyone to shovel, plow or blow snow from any driveway onto any public roadway. Please have your vehicles parked in your driveway as far off the road as possible to help prevent getting snow/slush or gravel on your vehicle from the Plow as it passes by.
We would also like to remind you that any garbage boxes or other items that are out by the side of the road should also be removed or moved back a safe distance to prevent any damages. Town will not be liable for any damages or repairs.
As in the past the Town will not provide any snow clearing services for the purpose of receiving home heating fuel. The Town would be in violation of the Municipalities Act, Section 221, if we provide this service.
"A council may contract to do work, supply goods or provide a service not authorized for the council under this Act where it has equipment, staff or goods surplus to its needs and charges normal commercial rates for the work, goods or service, as long as that work, supply or service is not in competition with a non-council entity that is located in the municipality."
Any residents in our communities with Town Water, please consider "adopting a fire hydrant" that is located on or near your property and help keep the fire hydrants clear from snow. During big snow storms it can take several days or even a week for our Maintenance Crew to get them cleared out.
You could help save a life!
