DILAPIDATED BUILDINGS and CAR WRECKS
Dilapidated buildings and car wrecks are still a huge issue around the Town; there are still some dilapidated buildings that need to be repaired or removed and car wrecks removed and transported to the transfer station for proper disposal. The buildings and car wrecks are two big problems with two easy solutions! We are asking all residents who have any of these issues to take responsibility and to do your part to clean up, repair and dispose of any unsightly litter.
Please do what has to be done and take pride in your properties. Council would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their cooperation in this matter.
ROAMING DOGS
Roaming dogs still continue to be a problem in the communities. We are receiving many complaints from residents who want to walk but are afraid to. Also, there are children in some communities who have severe allergic reactions if they come into contact with dogs. This matter has to be taken seriously and all dogs should be tethered or on a leash at all times.
PERMITS
Council wishes to bring to all Town residents' attention that before excavations of any type are undertaken and before rock, fill and gravel are deposited on properties, land owners have to obtain a permit from Council. These permits are in place because of past instances where property alterations have blocked natural drainage patterns, interfered with snowclearing efforts and in some cases, negatively affected other people's property. On occasion unsightly messes were created as well.
Applications for these permits must be made in advance of the work starting and Council employees will do a site inspection before the permit is issued.
Contractors or any individual operator must also make sure that before commencing such work proper permits are in place.
We would also like to remind residents that a permit is required for new buildings, alterations, extensions, replacement of siding, windows, doors, shingles, general repairs/maintenance, driveways, backfilling, etc. and that the permit is a requirement before work commences. In addition, a permit is required if you change the intended use of any structure.
DUE DATE FOR TAXES
We wish to advise residents that May 31 is the deadline for payment of Municipal Taxes. In addition, we wish to remind residents that the deadline for receiving the 10% discount on you Residential Property Tax is also May 31; to qualify for the discount you must not have any tax arrears from previous years, all property taxes must be paid in full for the current year and it only applies to one property within the municipality in which you live.
