Regarding the Certification of the Fogo Island Airstrip
"As you probably know by now we here on Fogo Island have been very fortunate to have EVAS Air of Gander offering Flights from Fogo Island to Gander since late April.
But we have ran into a serious problem just as EVAS were going to offer seat sales, packages for them scheduled Flights we received a word from Transport Canada that wasn't possible because the Airstrip wasn't Certified ? It was but got cancelled in 2004.
This was unaware to EVAS Air and Transportation Committee Fogo Island.
Since early May when we received this information we have been working with Transport Canada ,Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and EVAS Air to make this Certification possible.
Here it is July 18th and still no movement from our Provincial Government to get this process completed ,so we can have scheduled Flights out of here that we deserve.
We do believe this is very important to the future of Fogo Island. Travelling public, Doctors appointments, dialysis, business people, tourism and the list goes on.
So now we have no choice but to get the public behind us to confirm with our Government that this certification is very important and should get done."
